Terms and Conditions (from 2026)

1. Enrolment, Tuition, and Fees

  • Course Structure: Enrolment constitutes a binding agreement for a music course consisting of ten (10) consecutive, weekly 30-minute lessons per term (excluding scheduled school holidays), aligned with our academic calendar.
  • Term Dates: First Musical Academy operates in accordance with the Newham Borough school term dates. The exact term dates and holiday closures for the current academic year are available on our website or can be provided upon request as a hard copy.
  • Payment Terms: Term fees must be paid in full prior to the student's first lesson. For subsequent terms, payment is due at least one week before the new term begins. Late payments may result in the immediate cancellation of the enrolment and the loss of the student's allocated time slot. All fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
  • Health, Learning Support, and Data Protection: To ensure the well-being of all students and to allow teachers to tailor their instruction effectively, parents/guardians must disclose any health conditions, allergies, or learning difficulties on the enrolment form. Any changes or newly diagnosed conditions must be reported to the administration as soon as they arise. All students data is held securely on database accessible only by password in strict compliance with current Data Protection regulations and our Privacy Policy.

2. Cancellation and Refund Policy

  • Statutory 14-Day Cooling-Off Period: In accordance with the UK consumer law, you have the right to cancel your enrolment within 14 days of registration and receive a full refund, subject to a £20 administrative fee. If any lessons are requested and take place within this 14-day window, the cost of those delivered lessons will be deducted from the refund.
  • Cancellation After 14 Days: If you wish to cancel your enrolment after the 14-day cooling-off period has expired, no refunds will be issued. You will remain liable for any outstanding balance for the remainder of that term. All outstanding fees must be cleared before an enrolment can be formally terminated.
  • Notice Period and Automatic Renewal: Unless written notice of cancellation is received at least two weeks prior to the start of the upcoming term, your enrolment will automatically renew, and the next term's fees will become due. Lessons and fees continue as normal during the notice period to ensure a smooth transition.

3. Safeguarding, Attendance, and Liability

  • Safeguarding and Classroom Duty of Care: All teachers hold Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificates. Teachers assume responsibility for the well-being and safety of students strictly during the designated lesson time and within the classroom environment. First Musical Academy does not accept responsibility for students before their lesson begins, after it concludes, or if a student leaves the classroom unaccompanied during a lesson.
  • Drop-off and Collection: Parents/guardians must ensure that students arrive on time and are collected promptly at the end of their lesson. If you anticipate being late for collection, please notify reception immediately. Please collect your child directly from their classroom door at the end of the session.
  • Conduct and Classroom Access: To maintain a focused learning environment, parents/guardians do not attend lessons and are not permitted to enter the classrooms unless explicitly invited by the teacher. A designated waiting area is provided for your convenience. Smoking (including e-cigarettes/vaping) is strictly prohibited anywhere on the premises.

4. Missed Lessons and Replacement Classes

  • Student Absence: If a student cannot attend a lesson, a minimum of 24 hours' advance notice must be given to the academy administration. Where 24 hours' notice is provided, the academy will make reasonable endeavors to offer one (1) replacement lesson per 10-week term, subject to teacher and timetable availability. Replacement lessons must be taken within the current term and cannot be carried over. Late cancellations (less than 24 hours' notice) or additional absences will be forfeited and billed as normal.
  • Academy or Teacher Cancellation: If a lesson is cancelled by the academy due to teacher absence, events beyond our reasonable control such as severe weather, or any other operational reason, we will schedule a replacement lesson or issue a credit before the end of the current term.
